Introduction

God is able to speak. How so, you may ask. In this post, Part II of the "Hearing God through His Word" series of this blog, we take a look at one way in which God speaks; through Scripture, the God-breathed Word

God-Breathed Scripture

God, in His omnipotence, is able to speak in many and various ways. (Hebrews 1:1) One way in which God speaks is through His Word

"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,"
2 Timothy 3:16 ESV

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 ESV

As we speak, we exhale. Our breath goes forth from our mouths. Human beings were intentionally designed this way by God to reflect Himself; we are made in His image and likeness. Just as our words are breathed out in our utterances, God's Word is breathed out in Scripture. Scripture is God-breathed. Scripture is breathed out by God. It is His breath. His exhalation. His divine utterance. Through Scripture, God speaks

God's Word is living and active; as living and active as God is, discerning our thoughts and hearts' intentions. Being living, active, and discerning of hearts are qualities of God. God's Word shares God's qualities because God's Word is God. God speaks through His Word. God speaks to our hearts through His Word. God is eager to speak to us. May we openly expect to hear Him when we open our Bibles to read Scripture.
