“Glow Up!” is simply a collection of letters about my experiences transitioning and maturing into a brighter, bolder, more bona fide version of myself. This letter, the collection's second, is addressed to you; the topic of its body being “Love”. May the ink of my pen flow through your bloodstream with what you need to read, and burst in luminescence upon arrival at the caverns of your heart.
Prayer
God,
Thank You for Your commitment to my becoming;
Thank You for Your commitment to my becoming;
my “glow up”.
May I receive a deep revelation and intake wisdom
by Your Spirit from the words I am about to read.
May they induce transformation in the way that
I cultivate my internal and external environments,
and may I do so by Your standards, Jesus.
and may I do so by Your standards, Jesus.
In Your Righteous name I pray,
Amen.
Glow Up | “Love”
Dear Reader:
I have come to recognize and embrace the undeniable regarding myself; without love, I am nothing. The humility it requires to boldly make such a statement was garnered in the secret place with God. Love has shown me a beautiful contrast between being an embodiment of the highest version of yourself in public, able to illuminate others and ignite their flames, and being the human in the secret place, in need of the Father to paste affirming sentences on the blank chalkboard before you headed “My Identity”.
Love, expressed most evidently through words for me, is what solidified my viewpoint of the pops of colour that are the beautiful, strong aspects of who I am. It was love who declared the mic mine, who shared with me that I was an engager, a poetess, a minister, a worship leader, multi-faceted and vast. My desperation cultivated through brokenness and dependency born from salvation and is what formed within me the habit to receive what Love had to say to me. This statement was made to assure the broken that brokenness cannot limit the volume of purposefulness you are meant to hold and pour.
I have never thrived in an atmosphere absent of love. If you're unsure of what “love” means, He taught me that you can find its defining characteristics in 1 Corinthians 14:3-7.
Love is patient, love is kind . . . Love never fails. It doesn't give up.
When it comes to being a brighter, bolder, more bona fide version of yourself, it means pursuing and attaining healing and wholeness in soul. What I have recognized is that you are loved into wholeness in environments of safety, transparency and vulnerability. One cannot prosper in soul in an environment absent of love.
To speak into insecurities and discards timidity, to offer accountability necessary for growth and the grace that is necessary for empowering for change, to free the mind and deliver the heart to suit you up in full armour and still say, “I go before and behind you.”
Your soul's prosperity is the centrepoint in the propulsion of your life as you transition. Your soul encompasses your mind, will, and emotions. Your soul is you. It is, and should be, as bare and vulnerable as your naked body. In it lies your weaknesses and willpower, your “I can't”s and your faith, your doubts and your assurances, your pain and your peace. Love, as defined above, is the only thing and one who can handle your soul with the care it needs and requires to become of its optimal state so that you can prosper as your soul prospers.
N.B. Healing is perpetual and requires transparency; thus, living from a place of transparency is necessary for soul prosperity.
