Comparison | Till Your Soil

Hi, Love! I’m Light. Welcome to “Light Writes”. Do you struggle with comparing yourself to others? Allow me to share with you my experiential wisdom for overcoming comparison.
The Metaphor

You may have rich, bare soil, while another has a garden of roses. Your soil is immensely valuable. Tragically however, when you compare your soil to another’s admirable roses, you forget how valuable your soil is. You lose sight of what could come of your soil should you till it— nourish it, fertilize it, remove any weeds present, and sow good seeds.
The roses and soil can be likened to another’s life and your own. Comparing your life to another’s blinds you from the limitless possibilities of what your life could be like should you nourish your soul, cease self-hatred and any other thing that is unfavorable for growth and flourishing in all aspects, and sow good seeds.

Who would you become if you, instead of comparing, made small changes in your own life with the aim of improving your mental, physical, emotional health, and spiritual state? Who would you be if you, instead of comparing, intentionally chose to fall in love with increasing the quality of, and thus the level of enjoyment in, your own life?
Is the grass truly greener on the other side, or does your neighbour just water his? What would happen if you learned from him or made him your advisor instead of comparing? If you fell in love with watering your own? While you think about it, here are some small changes you can make to ‘till your soil’:
There is no condemnation for comparing yourself to others. Be gracious to yourself if you do. In love for you, and the consequent desire for your peace, contentment, and life’s improvement, I encourage you to go through the process of letting go of comparison.
There is so much potential in you and your life’s quality. Forget about the roses! Fall in love with tilling your soil.
The Serenity Prayer:
“God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.”
